Smile!

We are continually losing points on our mystery shoppers because we aren't giving "genuine smiles".

Now...surely if we are being told to smile genuinely, that isn't genuine? It's impossible to do it without smirking. A personal service to me, is loads better than a brand standard smile, hello, and come again....but that's what they want.

So from now on:

Massive smile and greeting
Deadpan face while serving, no conversation (no points for smiling during the transaction)
Massive smile and "Come again"

Not genuine, but that is what they are asking for.

We have new menus, which are loads better than the old ones - but they forgot to change one of the sections, so that looks odd, but you can't expect them to get it right!

lol, aren't giving genuine smiles! What a loada tosh, sometimes these checks make you laugh don't they.

I've just had my assesment from one of my managers which I'm pleased to say was all good but then of course comes the improvements section, all she could put down there was the one which us delivery drivers NEVER do `Introduce yourself by name to the customer when they answer the door' and the even more annoying `Refer to the customer by name'. OK, can they guarantee that the person who collects the pizza at the door is the same person who ordered it? No they bloody can't so you'd end up looking a complete berk when you say `Hello Mr Smith' when their mate Mr Jones did the ordering. I think it's' enough just that I have my identification card hanging around my neck with my name clearly stated on it!

I wonder if there are any "learn to smile" courses on offer anywhere, as I'd love to be taught how to insincerely smile...!

John, agree with you too. From a customer point of view, I'd think you were taking the Michael if I opened the door and you said "Good evening, I'm John and I'm your delivery driver for this Pizza. How are you today? Good! Good" etc.

I just don't think the British public at large are "into" the whole concept like they are in America. It seems to work on a whole other level there.

What's the worst "Have a nice day" phrase you've heard?

Mine is "Missing you already!"

The whole mystery shopper thing is a load of crap anyway if you ask me. As far as I am concerned I give the best service I can at any given time and I won't force a smile for anyone.

Back in my Safeway days, the whole stores bonus would hinge on a good mystery shopper result. Once a month, the envelope containing the result would be ripped open and the result looked at. Any dodgy result and the offender would be hunted down like a dog! I agree that the whole mystery shopper thing is a nonsense tho...

I like that you post about this subject because I think that many aren't consciousness which griny expression they have.

I think a true smile is very important and I wonder if everybody does at least one a day. For some people it is hard to imagine as they have an everything sucks facial expression or a fixed,(e)motionless face.

I want to make more people consciousness about smiling. Therefore I created a blog http://gimmeasmile.wordpress.com Maybe it helps you to do massive smiling effortless and with joy

Smiles,
Mira
