Do I know you?

Umm quite an interesting shift last night - and being a Friday it was reasonable busy. PS - I was paid yesterday after 3 weeks! I should be paid weekly but anyway...my till was down 50p last night, whoops. I need it to be right next time...for self esteem reasons! Once again apologies for late posting, I am too tired to post after work - but then again you don't know which days I work - so I suppose this could be tonights post? Well anyway it's last night's!

So I've been there over two weeks, and for whatever reason I decided to give someone who ordered chicken wings, chicken dippers. I pretty sure I haven't done this before, just had a mental lapse. So sorry folks, sometimes we just get it wrong - not delibrately. But I have never given out the wrong pizza..have to be careful there, ie. giving a vegetarian a meat pizza - could be big problems.

When I arrived we'd already run out of muffins, which was annoying - missed a few upsells, as coffee is £1.39 but with a muffin is only £1.69.

So the customers today:

One woman (not lady in this case) wanted a special doing. She was adament that she wanted that and nothing else so I shouted it to BOH so it would be ready as soon as possible, before receiving payment as she had other parts to her order. Anyway, at the end of her order - she decides she no longer wants that special as she has decided on something else. I explained the pizza was already cooking, but she was having none of it. So that pizza was pulled out of the oven and chucked away, waste of time and money.

Then there were the grannies - all very pleasant, this time, and they are easy targets for upselling as they love to agree with the knowledgable employee. Lovely grans these were, so I thought they were worth a mention.

Then there was this child who wanted MUSTARD with PIZZA. Sorry we don't do mustard. Weird.

Then there was the child (aged approximately 5) who said "Do I know you?" I replied "No I don't think so, do you?" "Yes". Yeah, most of my peers are 5 year olds...

Oh and as I little note, I write key customers on a scrap of receipt while I'm working, so I can remember them - because there are too many little incidents to remember them - and I've wrote something like "Movdes" but I now have no idea what this is - so if you have any ideas please say so.

We had an extreme rush of orders for hawaiian, around 15 in 20 minutes, which is a lot for us. People were waiting all over the place and the problem was I couldn't say "Are you waiting for the hawaiian?" Because they all were!! And not one of them wanted to budge on having it either.

Oh dear, and back to children again (PS: I DO like children - honest), but over today I put out 3 new ice cream sauce bottles out of 4. They were all empty, so they needed replacing. We actually get through it rather quickly (in a similar way we got through a 2 boxes of 500 in each, little milk things in a week - but only sell around 30 hot drinks a day). But by close, ALL of them were covered in sauce, and all 3 of the new bottles had their lids broken off. In a matter of hours, they were all knackered. Children.

Then today I noticed today why I have to clean the external stainless steel sign everyday - it is caked in hand prints - all over it, including right near the floor! How is that actually possible? I don't know, but it's true.

I then took the drip tray out of the coffee machine. What the hell has happened here? This tray is not small, it is huge, probably with about a 4l capacity - and it FULL of water! It has to yanked out, so their is water everywhere, and I'm dripping all over the place where customers walk, and their faces all turn sour. Then getting through to the sink is like a circus trick, so more spillages along the way.

Then to top of the night - a customer asked if they could buy some mayo. I said " Sorry we don't sell it, but I can give you some" "Well I don't mind paying". Dear oh dear, I'll just press the invisable 'mayo sachet' button shall I? I gave her a handful (ie about 10 sachets) and she went off very chuffed. Ahh well...someone was happy today.

Totally confusing

Ugh today has been a day of totally confusing, and un-understandable people.

The first instance of this with a couple - English speaking. The chap would say something, such as in answer to "Do you want that as a meal?" "Yes please". Then the woman would go "No thanks". This continued for around 4 other questions I asked. And they weren't ordering two meals - just one. I confirmed the order twice - normally I don't bother, but increasingly I am having to.

The next were two Chinese ladies, I think mother and daughter. They were extremely quiet and their English really wasn't great. They were also repeaters, one would say "Pepsi" the other would say "Pepsi" So is that two Pepsi, or that them just being plonkers. Turned it was a mix of both, some things they would repeat, some would actually be duplicate orders. It took 3 voids and 2 cancels to get their order correct - and it was my finger causing the problem.

Then in a twist for the night, a German family came along. Now I just want to get one thing out, this German woman was bang on the stereotype. Anyway, they also had some dodgy English, but not too bad. But because of the difficulties, I managed to do a couple of upsells, and their entire transaction was around £15 - which is a lot for a fast food restaurant.

The football kids were in again - again wanting hot drinks. I've never known 12 year old kids wanting 3 cups of coffee or tea a day - three days in a row.

Then there was moody girl who I had already given 4 ketchups to. I don't care how much I give out - I don't pay for it, so to have a teen girl come up to me and go "CAN I HAVE SOME MORE TOMATO SAUCE - IT IS FOR ALL THE FAMILY AFTER ALL" Yeah ok, you bought one pizza, but need more than 4 sachets...I 'placed' 6 more sachets onto a tray. 10 ketchups for 1 pizza.

End of night was really pleasing today, I've now worked out a method of starting to clean up 3 hours before close, because otherwise there is too much to do at close. Got out early considering I did both FOH and BOH. Got some KFC free so went home pretty happy.

Monday - Tap/Cup/Hot

Ahh sorry for not blogging yesterday about Mondays events. I will blog twice tonight. My general updates - till was DOWN today, 1p. Yes - one pence. I located it in the bottom of the cash tray, so in effect I wasn't down. Cracking. Discovered a few bits of personal information about my manager, but that really isn't interesting. I will be writing as if I had posted this on Monday, as I find that easier...

A few interesting events today - the first is the cup stealer.
This moron aged around 14-15 is apparently a repeat offender. He comes along and just fancies his chances of stealing a cup to get a drink. He attempted this, and got away with it until he got to the drinks machine. I shouted over for him to pay for it. He just threw the cup away and walked off. Not worth the hassle doing much else.

Then there are kids around 12-13 years old, who want tea. Why do they want tea? Because it is 30p cheaper than a soft drink, so they go off and fill up their tea cup with soft drink. Not today however, they bought their tea and attempted to fill with soft drink. Why are they so stupid, they are idiots and I ALWAYS (they are repeat customers - almost every day) watch them. Told them not to. So they went to get a tea - what they had originally bought. But they can't handle the press the button once and wait theory. They stared at me when their cup was over flowing the boiling water. I asked "Did you press the button twice?" "No" Their innocent faces said. Yeah right, so why exactly do you have a muddy football in a shopping centre and are kicking it round? They were not nice children. Didn't help them, I'm not scolding myself for them - they are rude and less than sweet smelling.

Talking about smells - do some people really not realise how much they stink? Ugh some are just disgusting.

Kids meals - 12 and unders only. Bent the rules twice today due to sweet faces - and people saying they are 12 - who am I to argue (well I do if they are grumpy).

I am now starting to notice repeat customers. There is this one chap, he is very timid and friendly. He studies the menu everytime - but always orders the same thing - not a meal, just a singular pizza. Now this is not really an issue, I find it amusing. But what I find amusing/annoying - is 3 times now, he has asked for tap water. We do not do tap water, and you'll find most restaurants don't. A few reasons:
  1. We want you to buy a mineral water because we make a huge profit on it
  2. Who knows what tap water has in it, I wouldn't drink it so these is no way I'll allow a customer to have some.
  3. Go to the sink in the toilets if you are insistant on tap water, it all comes from the same feed.

Money

Umm forgot to add in my last post that I should have been paid today...but I haven't been. not bothered yet really, my motive isn't purely money, I thoroughly enjoy my job at the minute (P/T only you see...) but I find it odd they say I would be paid, but I weren't.

Just wanted to see how much it was to be honest...cos I have no idea what it is going to be.

Busier!

Last night was a very busy night compared to the others so far. Boohoo - till was down nearly £5...and I thought I'd be perfect for ever!

Customers - only a couple of memorable ones - some chap comes in at 7.40 demanding a veggie pizza. We don't have any. Won't believe me about it, get the manager - tells him the same thing, still doesn't believe him but goes off.

Then another man came in, around 5 minutes to close, I explain the limited pizza situation and hs reply is "I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU'VE RAN OUT ALREADY!". "Sorry about that, but we close in less than 5 minutes". As soon as he walked off, the shutter was put down. Can't handle any more morons.

Clean up was good, I did the whole lot, and we got out early...yippee!

Sorry there isn't more, I promise to be more interesting on Monday - I need the weekend to recharge my batteries.

Busy!

Hello - it's been busy today - but my till was STILL RIGHT!! At this rate I'll never have to pay out...chuffed. But there haven't been any nasty customers, which is what you want to read about...but I think I can make up for this, if only slightly with the idiots.

The first set of people - foreigners. I like foreigners, they are some different and interesting. But after telling them £3.99 around 7 times before - the eighth time, my teeth were slightly gritting (is that the right phrase - if not please comment). Oh no. Now this group have decided when they bought their GBP, they'd get them all in £50. No problem except my float only starts at £100 and giving change for two £50s just isn't possible - have to request more change...takes time, queue builds up..ugh.

So it is very busy, the busiest I've had to deal with it. BOH now decide it is time to do some potwash...nice - thanks I'll serve these 10 customers with 4 pizzas. Yell for more of everything. 6 minutes wait time. People now think it is a perfect opportunity to lie and try and get free food. i asked a man, "Did you have a Fruitshoot with your meal?" "NO I DIDN'T!" So he doesn't get one, then exactly one minute later the same man is there. "Can I have my Fruitshoot for my daughter please?" "Can I see your receipt sir?" "Threw it away" "I did ask you if you ordered a Fruitshoot before, so sorry I won't be able to give you one - although you can buy one for 99p". He left without any fuss - so was a liar.

OH - nearly forgot about this one - some thing of unknown gender, race, nationality, age, bought a drink and asked for "ghff". "Pardon?" "erig - do you have any eriotb;ver". "Sorry I can't hear you" "DO YOU HAVE ANY ICE - I AM SPEAKING ENGLISH FOR GODS SAKE". "No" was my reply, short and blunt like that. Only rude person of the day.

Then, there are the idiots. Idiots are those who cannot tell the difference between an ice cream, cold, and hot drink machine. But today, not children - fully grown adults. Man came back to the counter complaining his cup had fell apart when he put hot chocolate in it. He'd used a cold drink cup - moron. Manager was clever with him, he didn't get another cup - but was offered to buy another - serves him right. Then there is the man in a suit - so presumably a professional person, who seemed to think he could somehow extract Pepsi from the 'Ice Cream Factory'. Incase you were wondering, he didn't manage it - so I gave him another cup.

Then...there were the friendly customers who really do cheer you up. If they are relaxed and happy with me, I'll be the same back. I gave someone a cup when they actually wanted orange juice. The lady just smiled at me, I looked at her...and went "Whoops...you don't want that" and gave her the orange. This process because of the friendliness went without fuss and took around 5 seconds. But with a surly person, the process takes longer as I have to do a lot of apologising "blah blah blah". I feel that the person who was friendly got a much better experience, and will return again.

Clean up today was easyish, no muffin errors - I had one though! :-) McDonalds grumpy again, we offered them a swap of food, they didn't get back to us. The shutters were down - horrid place.

Tomorrow is my last shift of the week - then after that it will be Monday. Please feel free to ask any questions about Pizza Hut you may have...! Any special photo requests etc?!

Hot v2

No time

Hello....my first shift of the week, of 3. Just the basics first - till was right again (I will make it a regular feature about my till float), and it was 1 FOH, 1 BOH today - me being FOH.

No abusive customers today, one funny event sticks out though. A chap about 12ish came up and ordered a Pepsi. I of course processed this order. Then this very frantic man comes RUNNING over "DON'T POUR THAT COKE" "---- YOU BLOODY KNOW YOU CAN'T HAVE COKE". The father now argeus with the boy, and I can pick up phrases like "You know Coke will make you go hyper, I'll get the money back". So had to process a refund (basically comprises of getting some money from the back). I then offered them a hot drink as I had also heard the dad say "Come on we'll get you a coffee or something to calm you down". So the boy had a Luxury Hot Chocolate. I never lose a sale!

I find my upsell techniques rather good. When ever someone orders a coffee I ask if they'd like a muffin with that - umm yes say most of them. The thing is - upselling and offering extras really does work, more than I thought it would - so thats why there is such a drive in most fast food places to sell you something else.

Another customer today wanted a margarita pizza with mushrooms on it - yeah we can do it - but for gods sake, why not just have the veggie pizza - oh well each to their own.

SMALL CHILDREN - I do like them, and think they are nice and sweet, it's nice to serve them because very often they are the most polite. But...they are not clean creatures. This little girl went over to the ICF (Ice Cream Factory) and plonked her pot on the stand. Problem one - please hold the pot. Then she pulls the handle very lightly. This builds up the unfrozen stuff inside, so when she eventually pull the handle harder - it splattered her (funny part), but also the wall and the floor (not so funny part). As soon as she went, I went over cleaned it with the D2 (general cleaner stuff) to show my disgust to her parents sitting near by. Oh and then there is the children who think the COFFEE MACHINE is the ICF. I had to shout at these boys about to press the hot water button with their hands dangling under it - went something along the lines of "OI - THAT'S NOT THE ICE CREAM MACHINE! WAIT THERE" and saved them from being scalded, very badly. Where were the parents - stuffing their faces with KFC.

Then there was closing time - no time to do all the mopping today, which I felt half bad about - but there just isn't enough time...yet, because I rookie! Got some free KFC tonight, they gave us Zinger stuff today without telling us...bit of a shock.

Oh and PS: I dropped 3 muffins on the floor today, and had to think - should I put them back...or should I chuck them? Chucked them - hope no one notices...and at least they were the horrible ones (not the Double Chocolate!). Oh and after I said something about how hot the oven was...and how I learnt the minimum temperature we can cook food is 64c, I had to think if I had made up the oven temp. But I hadn't so I'll post a pic of it in a minute...

The training and then the train

The induction just went through some of the basics, mainly stuff I'd already learnt on my four shifts already. Some bits were quite interesting, the rest was boring. The only fact I can think of, off the top of my head is that if a customer writes to head office to complain about a particular restaurant, they are fined £50. So we are not to give our head office address without first consulting the manager! Not that anyone would ever want to complain about us, well not on my shift because I always adhere to CHAMPS and the MOT!

I wonder whether the words or the acronym came first?

Then theres MOT - Moments of Truth.
For my version of Pizza Hut -there are only 4 (Full serve have 10). Greeting, Ordering, Delivery, Bye & Thanks.

I personally think I'm one of the friendliest people who works in the food area of this particular shopping centre, so why would anyone want to complain - unless they are reading this blog with me slagging them off!!

So that was the training - nothing much to talk about just corporate this and that. Then there was the train home.

Lovely civil journey until I got to my first connection. Get a seat (just), and on come a crowd of partially drunk rugby fans. Not a problem really, yet. Then the train is about to depart. Two youths then decide they'll get on the train, pulling back the doors from opening. The station assistant is not happy, and neither would I be if I had signalled for the train to go. These youths (they were older than me - but still youths - the not very nice type), then began swearing and sticking their heads out the door at the station assistant. He came over telling them to get off - they weren't having it. The train is now delayed. Station manager comes over, tells them to get off. They wouldn't. Right, that's it then. Train engine goes off. "This train will not go until you get off". Now the rugby fans, standing in the door way where the youths also are, saying "Come on lads, get off, we wanna get home". They get off. BUT THEN the rugby fans decide they now like these youths, and shout "COME ON GET BACK ON NOW - THEY WON'T SEE YOU". Yeah sure they won't, you've got 2 station assistants, one station manager, one ticket man, and one driver watching. They got back on and hid on the train - the rugby fans now encouraging them. The train is now 7 minutes delayed.

The police are now here, one chap on his own - how the hell can he possibly find these youths on a train packed full of all sorts, including the around 15 nob head rugby fans? He can't. The rugby fans lie of course - "No officer, they both got off". Then they contradict themselves with "They won't do any harm while we're here" Yeah right, you lot are half the problem. Station manager says "You say that, but what about at the next station, then the station after that - they are getting off". Anyway, 12 minutes later, they are still not off the train. The train leaves the station. What a waste of time. I wish they had stuck to their guns and got the idiots off. But really, they couldn't - and I felt sorry for them. Then all the way back, the drunken, offensive and rude fans were sinking and shouting at other passengers. The ticket man didn't come out of his box to collect tickets, purely because there were at least 20 nobs on the train. So the rail system lost out on ticket money, on the delay fines (£40 a minute...according to the police officer), and also on the refunds they will be paying out. Anyway - sorry for my first post with bad language, but this stuff just really annoys me because I'm considered a 'youth' and these morons give the rest of us a bad name.

Anyway I hope not to digress from the topic of Pizza Hut too much, just I had to tell someone!

Next shift is Monday, so next post will be then - unless I find any interesting photos.

Just thought I'd post again today regarding my course tomorrow. I have been reading through the Expert Training Workbook, and one point that I must remember is...

'Caution the customer that box containing hot items might be hot'. Yeah ok - I'll do that.

"Sir, please be aware that this pizza which has just come out of the 256C oven may be hot, and as a result, the box may also be hot."

Are customers really that thick? I'll post a picture of the book.

Tiring but enjoyable

Sorry for not blogging last night - was very tired as I had to do all FOH, which will be normal next week - that's not a problem anyway. Infact doing all of it is very satisfying - looking at your work!!

No really interesting customers yesterday, except this extremely smelly family. Literally all 4 of the family stunk, no wonder they wanted 8 pizzas for 4 of them - they were all rather large. No problem with large people, I'm not exactly thin, but large and stinking like you've been rolling round in cow pat all day just isn't nice. They were also rude. So large, smelly and rude - not a good combination - I can't imagine anyone outside their family could possibly like them.

Was taught how to use the mop, its one with a scouring pad in the middle and how I must fan out the mop head to save money. Coffee machine was in place, already with things written on it with black marker pen as someone had order the wrong thing and the spare parts will take around a month to arrive. Plus it's huge - and apparently - really nice coffee. Its Douwe Egberts - post eh?

Till was right again today, I thought it was up when I counted it first, and indeed it was at the end too. But I had told the managers (2 managers and me today...scary!!) before hand, so they were aware it would be over. Being over is better than being under.

Ran out of some pizzas dead early today, to do a cock up in the morning - KFC weren't very happy when it came to swapping left over food! Discovered how McDonalds like to play it - no food given away at end of night, no free drinks for staff - no nothing - staff from their come to us to get the free refills.

Rude, camp, friendly and indecisive

Another good day today, a few more noticeable customers today though!

First a few general updates - card machine working again - it was actually yesterdays manager who hadn't got a clue what he was doing so put an out of order sign on. Hot drinks machine - being installed tomorrow, no longer will I have to say sorry we don't do them...(more people seem to want hot drinks than I'd have thought - about 1 in 5). And my till was right again today - :-).

Now to the customers...the first one - rude.

Was very short with me, dismissing the reasonable suggestion he could get a drink and fries for just an extra 30p with "I've told you what I want". Moron.

Next - camp - very friendly man in a smart suit with purple, tiny purple goatie beard, bald head...Nice funny guy suggesting that having mineral water was gay BUT there was nothing wrong with being gay! Various other comments, my joint friendliest customer of the day.

The other joint friendliest was just a normal chap coming home from work, who pleased I suggested having a meal - saved him money and he got more. All the usual please thank yous etc, but just I felt he was very sincere - nice man.

Then there was the friendly but kind of annoying customers. The wanted garlic bread, this is cooked fresh to order so I told them I would bring it over with one of their pizzas which also required cooking and if they wanted to take their other food - agreed to this. Pizza and garlic bread ready, I go to take it out. Box falls off tray - wahay goes the pizza - another now requires cooking - so I give them the garlic bread and offer them an alternative and some free fries for the trouble, they agree to this. I think to myself, stupid for dropping it but well done for handling it well. Anyway - THIRTY minutes later, man is standing at counter.

"Are you bringing my --- pizza over?".
"Oh sorry sir, I thought we agreed to swap and you have some free fries which I have given you." "No"
"Oh well I thought we had.."
"So what can we do?"
I ummed and then just gave them the pizza. More trouble than it is worth to NOT give them the pizza. They'll only ask to see the manager, and because I'm only a rookie they'll give them a free pizza anyway and give me a grilling (although it won't be hardly anything - I just don't want to be in bad books).

Then there was the indecisive...
"I'll have the pizza deal please - marg."
"Fries and Pepsi please..."
"No wait cancel that"
*mutters to child - you want a pizza too?* *child replies - "NO MUMMY I WANT MCDONALDS!"
Mother "Yeah so make that two pizzas"
Then the rest of the family decide they'll pop along just as I'm about to hit pay.
Basically goes along the lines of they all want pizza.
"So I'll have the mega deal then please"
No I have to fetch the manager card to cancel the previous orders...not a pain - adds interest to my job.
Payment goes through.
"Can we swap one of the pizzas to a salad?"
Cancel the order again, find salad. None ready on front - have to fetch them from the back walk in fridge. Pull out pizza trolley (we have trolleys with stacks of pizzas which have been premade earlier ready. No salads. Ask manager what to do - just give two side salads and an apology.
Great now the customer tells me they want chicken salad! Not a problem now, but it was then as I wasn't trained on chicken salad, and wasn't aware it must be shouted to BOH (back of house) for them to prepare the hot chicken - ie. cut it up. The customer is happy to have the chicken as it is without it being cut - but then nosey colleague pops along (my equal) and grumbles it should be cut - now the customer is telling her SHE PREFERS IT NOT CUT! Argh, after a discussion with manager and colleague they can take the chicken uncut - WHY THE BIG ISSUE?!

So I blame nearly everyone including myself in that order - me because I had no idea about chicken salad, colleague for sticking her nose in and causing a problem and the customer for going from 1 pizza, to 2, to 4 to 3 and a salad and finally settling on 3 pizzas and a chicken salad. I had to cancel and redo the entire order 3 times!

Clean up was similar to yesterday except I did entire FOH - and had problems again because colleague decides to mop BOH around 7.30, so I'm effectively trapped in FOH for 45 minutes. Just as we are all leaving, manager asks colleague if she has turned off the ovens. "Yes I did!". Around 3 "Are you sure?" At least another 3 "Yes!". Manager, "I'm checking anyway." Guess what - OVEN ON! Not only would that have cost a hell of a lot of money overnight, it would have almost certainly set the fire alarm off, if not causing a fire. I like the managers - they seem to have intellienge unlike the others (except me of course!!)

I'm working 4 days this week rather than the 3 originally quoted - was offered an extra day so took it. Training on Saturday...got the information on it - looks like fun!! All corporate stuff...

Ha! I'm perfect!

First thing I need to get out - remember yesterday the till was out £10? Well I'm dead chuffed, one because I now have my own card and username, my name is printed on customers receipts and...my till was today perfect - to the penny!!! So who was it yesterday? :-

Anyway, pretty much the same as yesterday - but I've learnt to call out the items when they're running out, but I don't like shouting, seems rude but they're all used to it.

Cleaned behind the drinks machine - it was so sticky, not been done for ages by the looks of it, no one will notice it was done but hey I feel better for doing it.

Gripes with colleague. Told to empty bins by my equal (not superior!), I say why bother when there will be more rubbish before the end of day - this is dismissed, and am told to empty it now and not bother later. End of day comes, manager comes round. "Are you going to empty these bins?" "Already did as -------- instructed". "Do them again". So I've now done double the work for no reason - will not be doing this again.

Customers!
CC/DC machine was today changed to chip and pin (we're really up to date ehh?), but someones broke it already - so that was out of order. Now it seems every other order they want to pay by card. No problem normally but the machine is bust!! They have two alternatives however...and these are both explained in this incident.

"Oh right, I've not got any cash on me - are there any cash points?"
"There is one over there *points* and two outside next to -----".
"Ok no problem, I'll just get some"
"I'll keep your food warm here"

Customer comes back
"That bloody machine charges £1.75!"
"Oh sorry about that, you could try the machines next to -----"
"No just cancel my order"

Argh! Luckily that only happened once, the other times they either had cash on them, borrowed some, or used the free cash machines.

Had some Jewish people in as well...
"What's the supreme got on it"
"Explain, mentioning pepperoni"
"No ham?"
"No ham sir"
"I'll take that then please"

Few minutes goes by
Angry man standing at counter frightens me as I appear from restocking the under counter fridge.
"This pizza has ham on it!"
"Ever so sorry, do you mind if I have a look so I can swap it for you?"
No ham in sight, pepperoni on it though - not been bitten into.
"There isn't ham on this variety of pizza, only pepperoni"
"Pepperoni IS HAM!"

I really couldn't be bothered to argue so swapped it and threw the other one away. But sorry, in Pizza Hut terms - HAM IS HAM!

Will see what tomorrow brings..still enjoying it.

First Day

Just got back - very good day I think...!

Started, having to share a till as I don't have my own card yet, but will get one tomorrow. Was also given my uniform.

So are pizzas made fresh? Yup - the dough arrives made, but are then made into the correct shape. The fresh toppings are then put on top, and placed through the oven. They are then put onto the rack of pizzas, ready for us to give to the customer. Officially they are meant to be changed every 30 minutes, but they never last that long anyway - so it makes no difference. Garlic bread etc is all made fresh to order.

Is the place clean? Yes, both public and round the back - the cleaning is very particular too, pots washed twice, floors mopped every day, all stainless cleaned and polished every day.

Customers! All pretty friendly so far, but I've already worked out the type I dislike the most. The ones who stand in the queue for a few minutes, get to the front - then decide what they want! Tea and coffee - it's on the menu but the machine has not yet been installed (have got it however). One problem customer:

"One tea please"
"Sorry, we haven't tea right now as our machine has not yet been installed"
"Just a tea then please"
"Sorry - we haven't got a machine to do that".
"WON'T BE COMING HERE AGAIN THEN"
I just stared.

Miserable crow...

Related sales - if we sell a meal we are meant to offer a side ie. garlic bread etc. I was really surprised how many people have something extra when offered - over 50%, no wonder it has been driven into me already that I must ask if they want a side.

End of the day, clean everything up etc on the front - the BOH staff dealing with kitchen cleaning except mopping.

Also - employees can have as much food as they want within reason, and providing they do not eat it where the customer can see.

One problem, as I have been sharing a till today...we're £10 down on my shared till. Was it me or was it my colleague? Normally it will be docked from whos till it was, but luckily today manager said will let you off as it was my first day and was sharing a till. I honestly don't think it was me, but then again everyone will say that. I will actually prefer it when I have my own card so I can be responsible for my own actions.

Excellent so far though! Hopefully I'll have some more customer moans tomorrow...I want people to moan, because I know thats what THE READER wants!

New Job

Hello there! I am now a Pizza Hut Team Member! Probably not Pizza Hut as you know it, I work at a Pizza Hut Express branch - these do smaller pizzas, as a takeaway. The branch I work in is situated in shopping centre, with other retailers such as McDonalds and KFC also operating there. I work in the UK, but won't reveal exactly where - as the branch I work at there are only around 10 staff.

I start work on Monday, when I begin my training. I work 3 days - so my posts will generally be 3/4 times a week. Hopefully I'll be able to provide some humour and facts about the inside of a fast food restaurant! I don't think I'll start posting constantly about my personal life, as I know people don't find that very interesting on a work related blog...Please make some comments on my posts so I know people are reading it!

Some of the blogs which have inspired me to create this include Bus Driving, Argos Employee and Retail Record.

So as a start insider comment - Express restaurants have around double the profit margin than regular restaurants.
